Migrating to Canada Through Provincial Nomination Program (PNP)

There are different options to choose from when thinking about immigration into Canada. In this post, we’re taking a look at the method of applying using the Provincial Nomination Program.

Canadian Provinces have reached an agreement with the Canadian government to set up the Provincial Nomination Program that grants each province the right to screen immigrants who have values to add with respect to the economic demands of each province.

The Process of applying via the Provincial Nomination Program is quite straightforward. Let’s take a look.

You first and foremost want to be sure that you are eligible to apply under the Provincial Nomination Program. If you are, then you should go ahead and apply bearing in mind that your application might take some time. Let me break these steps down so that you can have a good grasp of what we’re talking about.

Are you Eligible to Apply?

To find out if you’re eligible, there’s a tool online through which you can confirm known as “Come To Canada”. Note that eligibility conditions can be altered even without notice, so be sure to keep yourself up to date. When you’re sure you are eligible, proceed to apply under the Provincial Nomination Program.

Processing Your Application

Eligible applicants will proceed to apply to a province of their choice. The Province will then nominate applicants under two different categories based on the profile of the applicant. Remember that these provinces will look at what you have to offer in contribution to their economy while nominating applicants. These two categories are

  • Express Entry
  • Non-Express Entry

All applications are channeled through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and the time taken to process applications vary. If you’re nominated under Express Entry, your application would take a maximum of six months to be processed. Under non-Express Entry, however, processing times don’t have estimates just yet.
